The North Hills varsity boys basketball team takes on the talented United Faith Christian Academy Falcons tonight at home at 7 p.m.
Charlotte’s United Faith is coached by legend Muggsy Bogues. Players include 7-footer Peter Jurkin, who signed with Indiana, and Braxton Ogbueze, a 6-foot-4 guard headed to Florida. Another guard, 6-3 Zach Davis, is committed to UNC Asheville.
n Nikolas Petruk had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for North Hills in a recent 66-62 loss to Davidson Day.
The Eagles wiped out an 18-point deficit to take a temporary lead in the fourth quarter.
Vismantas Marijosius had 13 points and 10 rebounds for North Hills. Taylor Kriminger scored 12 points. Povilas Dambrauskas had eight points, seven rebounds and five assists. Moussa Doucara had seven points and nine rebounds. Broderick Avery added five points for the Eagles (14-6, 5-3 SPAA).
Davidson Day’s Patriots are 21-3 and 6-1 in the SPAA.
n The North Hills middle school boys team thumped Park Ridge 59-13. Wes Fazia (14 points), Ian Bradshaw (13), Garrett Beck (12) and Grayson Whicker (7) were the scoring leaders for the Eagles (10-1, 3-0 PAC-8).
n The North Hills middle school girls team beat Park Ridge 28-20.
Sierra Eagle scored nine points for the Eagles. Olivia Houghton had eight and Dajah Glenn five.
Helen Poole, wife of Buddy Poole, the voice of Catawba Indians football and basketball, passed away on Tuesday.
She suffered a heart attack a week ago.
The family will receive friends at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Salisbury on Thursday, from 6-9 p.m. The service will be at the same location on Friday at 1 p.m.

They are running back Damien Washington (UNC), defensive lineman Gerald Holt (Liberty), offensive lineman Hunter Morris (The Citadel), defensive back Kaleel Hollis (Lenoir-Rhyne) and defensive lineman Darius Rice (Coffeyville Community College).
Quanera Hayes won the women’s 200 meters in Saturday’s Niswonger Invitational held in Johnson City, Tenn.
The freshman ran a time of 25.25 seconds in the prelim and 25.34 in the final. Both sprints broke the previous school record.
Livingstone’s relay team of Corre’n Brown, Brittany Burton, Quanera Hayes and Anna-Kay Edwards set school records in the 4×400 and distance medley relay.
Livingstone’s Ahmad Garrison broke his own school record in the weight throw.

Omar Ford-Bey hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Livingstone to a 64-61 CIAA road win at St. Augustine’s on Monday.
Nasir Austin led the Blue Bears with 15 points, while Ford-Bey scored 12. Tyler Johnson had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Livingstone led by as many as 18 points in the first half and was still up 13 with 6:05 left in the game, but that lead disappeared.
St. Augustine’s 15-2 run tied the contest at 58-all with 1:27 remaining, and it looked like more heartbreak was coming for the Blue Bears, but this time they came through at the end.
With Livingstone trailing 59-58, Ford-Bey hit a runner.
Then the Blue Bears drew a charge, and Mark Thomas made one free throw for a 61-59 edge.Livingstone (5-11, 2-7) fouled on the rebound when Thomas missed his second free-throw attempt, and the Falcons knocked down two at the line with 15 seconds left to tie.
On the Blue Bears’ final possession, Trone Jackson drove and dished to Ford-Bey in the right corner. The southpaw got off his 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded — and it swished.
It was the first road victory in the league for Livingstone.
Livingstone hosts the Rams of Winston-Salem State on Saturday night at New Trent Gym.

Cierra York and Kendra McKinney scored 17 points apiece for the Blue Bears (7-14, 2-7 CIAA).
Montiya Harrison had 12 points, while Tiffany Evans scored 11.

Catawba competed against Warren Wilson and Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday in Hickory.
Catawba’s men won against both opponents, while Catawba’s women topped Warren Wilson but lost to the Bears by a point.
Andrew McCollister (Salisbury) won the 400 IM (4:11.25) and 500 free (4:49.23). Theo Zatterstrom won the 1000 free and 100 fly for the Indians. Toomas Goutt won the 100 back and 50 free. Magnus Lundgren won the 100 and 200 free races.
The men’s relays teams won the 400 free and 400 medley.
n Katia Kurglov won the 50 free and 1000 free to lead Catawba’s women. Lindsey Yarbrough won the 100 back.
Catawba swimmers will compete in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Feb. 15-18 in Charlotte.
Erwin’s girls downed Mooresville 31-16 on Monday.
Destiny Jackson had 11 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Eagles (2-0). Breya Philpott had 19 rebounds and added eight points and four steals. Micah Furr had eight points, while Ashlyn Mills grabbed five rebounds.
Mooresville (0-1) was led by Serena Hull’s eight points.
n Mooresville’s boys rolled to a 52-25 win against Erwin behind Jay Davis’ 16 points. Noah Allen and Garvin Stewart added nine and eight points for the Red Imps (1-0).
Erwin (0-2) was led by Datavian Davis with eight points. Lucas Morton and Franklin Downing scored six and five points, respectively.
